We must demand Congress place two restrictions on all defense appropriations. First, no American forces should undertake offensive actions against Iran. Second, no American forces should help Israel undertake offensive actions against Iran. Congress must make it clear to the military that Congress will not support any acts of war against Iran. Non binding resolutions or vetoed resolutions won't have the force of law, while defense appropriations will be veto proof and filibuster proof. If we fail to restrict defense funds, Messrs. Olmert and Bush may join Saddam Hussein in the ranks of unprovoked aggressors who have attacked Iran, and the perpetual war will continue.
The peace and justice community needs to concentrate its efforts on the transcendent issues and agree on the best ways to effect change. If we can end the war on terror, all other subordinate issues will no longer be issues. I submit we must now preempt the latest manifestation of the war on terror, an attack on Iran, by occupying Congressional offices until Congressmen agree to restrict all defense appropriations.
Next war, civil war - Stay out of Iran
